I have a confession to make: I’m a multipotentialite.
A what??
A multipotentialite. Or a scanner if you prefer.
Your eyes are still inquisitive.
I hear you. The term is not common.
This is how Emilie Wapnick, founder of Puttylike, a community dedicated to the flourishing of multipotentialites, defines it:
Barbara Sher, renown author on that same topic, uses a food metaphor in her book “Refuse to Choose”
“To scanners, the world is like a big candy store full of fascinating opportunities and all they want is to reach out and stuff their pockets”.
A multipotentialite is eager to eat them all!
So what can you do about it?
In both cases, there are 2 useful strategies.
Now, you’ve put a name on it, you can:
- Do your own research
Gather information, read studies, find patterns. You can be more attentive to your needs and nurture them instead of supressing them.
- Reach out to a community
Barbara Sher, a multipotentialite herself, mentions “Isolation is the dream killer”.
Thanks to the Internet, it’s easier than ever to find the right community for you.
Agreed: it doesn’t replace face-to-face contact but it’s so valuable to share with like-minded people.
A search on Google is much more effective that stopping all the people walking in the street and asking them whether they’re expats or multipotentialites. Right?
Puttylike is a dynamic community for multipotentialites. In fact, they’re organizing a festival #Puttyfest to raise awareness about multipotentialites. Hence this article 🙂
But why is it so important to know whether you’re a multipotentialite or not?
Now, your turn.
Are you an expat multipotentialite? Did you know it?
